Classroom: Monitos
Blog Theme: My Community and Me
Weekly Theme: Exploring my neighborhood
Week: November 18th, 2019 to November 22nd, 2019

What are we learning?
Dear Parents,

We hope you are having a wonderful week. This is our last week of the topic “My Community and Me.” Children will explore their surroundings and be encouraged to be kind, nice and considerate to their neighbors and show respect to them.

Through practical actions, we keep enlightening kids about the importance of being part of a neighborhood. We have scheduled exciting activities related to this theme so children can continue learning through fun experiences. Each one of them will help to continue strengthening gross and fine motor skills, language, and socio-emotional skills. Below you can find a summary of all activities during the week:

·         Large Group Setting
o    Observe images of diverse neighborhoods and provide a brief description.
o    Get familiar to our neighborhood and discuss the streets, houses, people, etc.
o    Create a turkey using paper plates.
·         Small-Group Setting
o    Classify blocks by colors.
o    Build towers of different colors.
o    Create a collage of our neighborhood.
·         Large Group Setting
·         Create our appreciation tree and a craft book for thanksgiving.
·         Do puzzles.

Year-Round Activities
Student of the Week & Traveling Pet

Please make sure to sign up your child for these beautiful activities as these 2 are the children's favorites! These activities allow every child to create and share memories with their classmates. Student of the week will run from August through January and Traveling Pet from January to the end of the School Year.

As you know, every week, a child is given a set week that he/she is the student of the week. On Monday of their week, the student of the week should bring a poster and a book created with family pictures, favorite books, sports, hobbies, animals and other interests. Parents will pick a day to present a banner to the classroom. The student of the week may also bring favorite toys and books to school so they can share with classmates.

As for the Traveling Pet activity, the classroom pet will spend a whole week with the child and family. During that week, parents and the child will have fun together with a new member of the family while providing love and care to the pet. Our pet loves to read at night, go to the park, visit museums, give hugs and kisses! However, the pet does not like taking a bath as he can get sick. Parents and children will enjoy bonding time and making new memories, and the child will be very excited to share all the memories with his/her classmates. In their week, parents and the child should bring a collage of pictures and a written paper containing a brief description of what they did with the pet. Parents should make sure to place the collage inside the traveling pet bag.

Sign up for both activities today! Sign-up sheets are available at the entrance of the classroom.
