Hola! Around The World

Classroom: Monitos

Blog Theme: Hola! Around The World

Weekly Theme: Knowing North America & Central America

Week: March 2nd, 2020 to March 6th, 2020

What are we learning?

Dear Parents,

We hope you all have a wonderful week. We will start a new topic, “Hola! Around the world.” This topic will allow children to develop skills that will foster equality, fraternity, solidarity, respect and sense of belonging.  Through hands-on activities children will realize that cultural diversity conveys wealth of information and different experiences and learn new cultures while increasing their level of understanding about other cultures.

We believe that children should be immersed in learning experiences that promote and increase their knowledge in regards with cultural diversity, since they are little.

This week we will learn about North America and Central America. Children will explore and discover about their culture, geography, traditions, cuisines, music, etc. as well as identify other cultures and have respect for other cultures.

We have scheduled exciting activities related to this theme, so children can continue acquiring knowledge through fun experiences.  Each one of them will help to continue strengthening gross and fine motor skills, language and socio-emotional skills. Some activities children will enjoy are as follows:

·         Large Group Setting

o    Learn about North America and Central America.

o    Observe visual flashcards of animals, traditional costumes and touristic places.

·         Small-Group Setting

o    Pretend play: play being American Indians in dramatic play. Use a tent and pretend to make a fire.

·         Small-Group Setting

o    Look for shells inside a sandbox.

·         Small-Group Setting

o    Play drums while following the music beat.

·         Large Group Setting

Thank you for letting us play such an essential role in your child’s life and we hope you have a great weekend.

Year-Round Activities
Student of the Week & Traveling Pet

Please make sure to sign up your child for these beautiful activities as these 2 are the children's favorites! These activities allow every child to create and share memories with their classmates. Student of the week will run from August through January and Traveling Pet from January to the end of the School Year.

As you know, every week, a child is given a set week that he/she is the student of the week. On Monday of their week, the student of the week should bring a poster and a book created with family pictures, favorite books, sports, hobbies, animals and other interests. Parents will pick a day to present a banner to the classroom. The student of the week may also bring favorite toys and books to school so they can share with classmates.

As for the Traveling Pet activity, the classroom pet will spend a whole week with the child and family. During that week, parents and the child will have fun together with a new member of the family while providing love and care to the pet. Our pet loves to read at night, go to the park, visit museums, give hugs and kisses! However, the pet does not like taking a bath as he can get sick. Parents and children will enjoy bonding time and making new memories, and the child will be very excited to share all the memories with his/her classmates. In their week, parents and the child should bring a collage of pictures and a written paper containing a brief description of what they did with the pet. Parents should make sure to place the collage inside the traveling pet bag.

Sign up for both activities today! Sign-up sheets are available at the entrance of the classroom.

Rhymes

#1

#2
Vamos amiguitos
Vamos a tocar
Muchos instrumentos
Para, papapa

Suena el tambor
Suena el violín
Suena la guitarra
Trin, trin, trin, trin

Ahí vienen las maracas
Vamos todos a tocar
En esta linda orquesta
Que es fenomenal
